Social realism is a genre that focuses on topical issues within a society which is represented by different ideologies. Many themes include things such as money, drugs, alcohol or sex in some form.
The target audience varies depending on the films forms and conventions .
for example, a film like 'Kidulthood' appeals to a young audience because the culture of the film is set around themes that appeal to youth in particularly London. Films such as 'Spare Time' (1939) would appeal to a much older generation such as those over 50 because its content is more appealing to that type of audience.
The film 'Billy Elliot' appeals mostly to everyone especially families as it is a 'feel-good' film. Whereas, the film 'Trainspotting' would not be recommended for families as there is a strong drug reference and a lot of swearing. Making it inappropriate for younger children.
