  • Business relations are always professional but tokens of friendship are always appreciated. Clients and partners can be kept happy with gifts but bribery is not accepted and is illegal.
  • Maldives business and cultural ethics are strongly based on Islamic values and share similarities between its neighboring countries. Maldivian culture is quite reserved and conservative.

  • The rich marine biodiversity of the Maldives is an advantage for sustainable fisheries. Maldivians continue to utilize marine resources for both local consumption and exports.

  • As a manager, one is required to make sure employees are productive and motivated.
  • Labour in the Maldives is cheap, therefore can be taken for granted.
  • Most locals work in resorts or fisheries. They are underpaid and in some cases, not paid at all.
  • The conditions go undiscovered.
  • Human rights cases have been fought and thanks to the rising literacy rate, workers have become aware and choose to speak out.

Although Maldives is a prime location to start a business, considering its geographic location, lively inhabitants and a rich culture, it has social issues just like any other country.

Environment

Businesses have been put under pressure, ever since the possibility of Maldives becoming an underwater nation occurred. Corporations have been urged to practice eco-conscious attitudes. Recycling and saving water may help reduce the carbon footprints of these Maldivian companies and ensure a safe future for the country.
