Col. Francisco Olive was responsible for the return of Rizal. It was him who requested the Governor General Blanco to immediately order the return of Jose Rizal for he accused him of organizing the insurrection against the Spanish authorities in Manila. On November 30, he summoned Jose Rizal to appear before him for an initial investigation of his case. The preliminary investigation began few days later, with Col. Francisco olive acting as the judge Advocate. Two kids of evidence were presented against Rizal, namely documentary and testimonial.
- included letters which allegedly implicate Rizal in the Propaganda Movement, several transcripts of speech wherein his name was used by the Katipunan, as well as several of his poems which were highly nationalistic in nature. Testimonial evidence, on the other hand, consisted of the oral testimonies of Rizal’s various acquaintances.
These evidences were endorsed by Colonel Francisco Olive to Governor Ramon Blanco.
