- punished extreme Catholics and Protestants for trying to convert others

- 1570: Pope excommunicated Elizabeth from the Catholic church

- 1586 Babington Plot of Catholics to kill the queen

- 1534: Act of Supremacy made him the head of the Anglican Church

- 1539: passed the Act of Six Articles

- 1545: church services and Bible translated into the vernacular

- referred to as "Bloody Mary"

- England reverted back to Catholicism

- she revoked and replaced proclamations put in place by Edward VI

- 1554: she forced married clergy to leave their wives and the Act of Supremacy was repealed
