The Puritans considered the bible the true law of God that provided guidelines for the church government.

They wanted to shape the Church of England to meet there ideals. Puritans believed all Christian churches should be organized by councils.

They believed that each congregation was a church by itself and should have complete control of its own affairs.

They stressed grace, devotion, prayer, and self examination to achieve religious virtue.

They shaped religion, social life, and government in North America to their ideals. Their strong belief in education led them to establish Harvard and Yale as colleges and to require a system of grammar schools in the colonies

They were really critical of the Church of England and they wanted to either destroy or separate from it.

They were also critical about the lax standards of public behavior, cling widespread drunkenness and the failure of many to keep the Sabbath property.
