Charges were brought against president Wingfield and he was

replaced by John Ratcliffe.

This winter known as the "starving time" was a terrible time when settlers were ravaged by disease, starvation and warfare.

The colonists began to build a stronger fort after an attack of the natives.

Groups sailed up the James River in search of a place to settle and soon chose Jamestown Island.

Three ships left London to establish a colony in Virginia.

During this time the population of Virginia shrank from 300 to about 90

The natives attacked to wipe out Jamestown during this time

This fort has been described as triangular

They left London with 105 men and boys

The three ships were the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and

the Discovery.

Wingfield was accused of keeping food stores hidden for himself

On May 13 the settlers chose Jamestown Island

At this time, the leaders chosen by the Virginia Company were also named.

Captain Newport and his crew return to England to sell goods from the New World.

A group went exploring and met the Powhatans. They began to trade with them.

The three ships sighted the land of Virginia, landed, and

were attacked by natives.
