The character trait that describes Kenny is excited. It says in the text that "I was too excited to sleep and too excited to read" (Curtis 130). My evidence proves my answer by saying that Kenny was way too excited to do anything because he was ready ave. I chose this quote because it tells me that Kenny is super excited for his trip to Alabama and he is ready to leave."

"The character trait that describes Kenny is curious because in the book it says "When Mr. David left, Momma went upstairs and into Joetta's room. I eavesdropped" (128). This quote proves my answer because this shows Kenny was curious. Someone who is curious wants to know almost anything. I know this because my own brother is curious and always tries to eavesdrop on me and my Mom.

Examples

"The character trait I would use to describe the Dad would be goofy. According to the text, the Dad did funny imitations of southern accents (Curtis 132). This evidence proves my answer because usually goofy people like to do imitations and funny things, and the Dad tried to make his kids laugh by doing this."

Examples

"The character trait arrogant describes Byron because he thinks he's better than everyone and can do whatever he wants. For example, in chapter 5, "Byron got caught lighting matches again and it looked like this time momma was going to do what she always said she would". This quote proves my answer that Byron is arrogant because he keeps lighting matches even though his momma does not want him to and she has told him that several times before. Byron keeps lighting the matches because he thinks he's better than Momma and does not have to listen to her."

"I chose mean because in the text it says Byron was going to "jack up" Kenny. My evidence proves my answer because Byron is mean to his brother."

Look at it another way...

What should this get?

-Your job is to make sure the person reading your answer understands exactly what you are trying to say.

-Pretend you are explaining a task to a 2 year old.

-Pretend that, if the 2 year old is able to understand the task well enough to do it, you get paid a million dollars.

-Think about how you would explain the task to this 2 year old.

Would it be detailed?(maybe overly so)

Would you explain every part of it exactly the way you want it to be done?

This is what you need to do in E-explain. Explain every part of your thinking so that the reader understands it and has zero questions.

But seriously.... how do we do E?

So first....What is E?

-It might seem like you are stating the obvious, but you really need to explain exactly how the evidence proves your answer.

Use these questions to help you:

1. Why did I pick this quote to support my answer?

2. What does this quote make me think that helps me answer the question?

3. What does this quote prove?

4. How does the quote prove it?

1. E means to explain.

2. E should start with a language stem: "My evidence proves my answer because..."

3. E should explain your thinking by answering the following questions:

a. Why does your quote prove your answer?

or

b. How does your quote prove your answer?

E should not:

1. cite more evidence or

2. simply restate your answer

or

3. not go into detail.
