RELIGIOUS
also called KOMEDYA de SANTO centers on the life of Christ or of any saint.
SECULAR
It usually seen during church celebrations.
- performed at the local fiestas, EXAMPLE is SANTACRUZAN.
- The story evolves the search for the Holy Cross by Queen Elena and her son, Emperor Constantino.
COMEDIA de SAN MIGUEL

What is KOMEDYA?
- It is a theatrical tradition by Filipinos sometimes in a form of singing.
- It describes conflicts between Christians and Muslims.
- Its was used by the SPANISH to promote Christianity in PH.
It is also known as MORO-MORO, LINAMBAY, and ARAKYO.
- popular during Spanish colonial period.
- depicted battles between Christians and Moros as Muslims.
- Moros as the perpetual villains who always lost to the Christians in the end.
KOMEDYA
Arakyo festival - held every May in Nueva Ecija. This festival dates back to the Spanish colonial period and is celebrated with a theatric/religious presentation similar to Spanish zarzuela, dramatizing the spread of Christianity in the country and the war between Christian and Muslims.
