What can you tell about the Greek people who told this myth?

The greeks who told this myth believe in the valuable lesson of learning from others mistakes. Bellerophon, the hero, even makes the mistake of overstepping his boundaries and receives a punishment. Back then, they believed that the same thing could happen to them. Most likely, they used this myth to get the point across that it is not a could idea to overstep the boundaries that the gods have set or else they could receive a punishment.
