Recently is has become scarce, due to the amount that has been used, and costs a lot of money. We have also found other, better and more efficient fuel resources lately that are better for the environment such as solar energy and wind energy.
There are many different types of fuel such as coal, natural gasses, wind, solar, etc, however these fit into smaller categories, sustainable and fossil fuels.
Oil is made when plankton and other small organisms die, fall to the bottom of the ocean, are covered in mud and sediment and decompose.
