Alexander Milton Ross

Alexander Milton Ross was an abolitionist

born on December 13 1832

Mr.Ross graduated at 23

and then became physician.

Alexander Ross’s father died when he was only 12 which made him quit school.

Mr.Ross became a slavery abolitionist at a young age. His parents were firmly against this.

He became involved in the anti slavery

action in 1856.

He would come up to the owner of a slave plantation and make a lie: that he was here to study birds.

Then when night fell he’d speak in secret to the slaves.

He would give each slave a knife, a compass, a few dollars, as much food as they could carry and sometimes even a pistol.

He would tell them who to watch out for and who to trust. The secret code was Friend of a Friend they used it to know who to trust.

Mr.Ross made atleast 5 trips to the Southern States and managed to help 31 slaves eacape.

Alexander Ross died in Detroit, Michigan on October 27, 1897.
