Defining The Branches

Journalism as the fourth branch of government

Ethics, the need for truth...

Journalistic Ethics

“With more people seeking news from obviously partisan sources, and the notion of impartiality under attack, both government and individuals have a larger incentive to take advantage of residual good faith in journalistic impartiality.”

Press Vs People Vs Politics

The Watchdog Function

The role of journalist ethics though is to keep diluted or incorrect information out of the viewer’s realm of influence. What we put in place to combat all these uninformed reports is a very high ethical bar. Reporters are gatekeepers and guards to the truth. Most Americans have no other access to this information. Journalists are a pillar in democratic stability, hence why they are held to such and aggressive standard.

“Without media organizations aware of their own power and responsibility, an informed citizenship cannot be sustained.” (Kronig 2004)

The Role of the Journalist

How they support and supervise simultaneously

Propaganda State

The dangers of an uninformed democracy...

Put it before them briefly so they will read it, clearly so they will appreciate it, picturesquely so they will remember it and, above all, accurately so they will be guided by its light.

- Joseph Pulitzer

When democracy falters or rebels, the government must react. However, we do not see that the news outlet and journalists of the world informed this democratic action. It is critical we feel safe and informed. If this feeling is ever lost by lack of ethics the whole system is susceptible to a crash.
