What Materials
The three Gorges dam used a lot of hard materials. They used concrete to make a strong wall and a ceiling. Steel, to make a frame of the wall. The last material that was used is water cement, to make all the materials durable. If all the concrete was laid out, it would circle the earth 3 times.

The Three gorges dam is 4 times bigger than the hoover dam. Also the Three gorges dams height is 600 feet and the length was 1.24 miles. It took 24,000 workers and took years.

The three gorges dam caused a flood that wiped about a hundred twenty nine cities. A lot of people had to migrate to different cities and it was very hard.
In the first 5 years of the project (1992-1997) the construction workers started to build a cofferdam (a cofferdam is a space in a body of water that is dry and can be used for building in water). They also made a temporary ship lock for people to go through the water and build.
The Three Gorges Dam is one of China's biggest projects. One reason the dam was built was because that China had a lot of pollution from fossil fuels and they needed another source. So they used Hydro power. That is formed by the energy of water.
