Thomas Hobbes had a rough childhood having no father figure around. Being born on the verge of war with the spanish. Thomas went to 3 different schools as a child and attended University of Oxford. He was an average student at Oxford. After his college days Thomas traveled around and studied Geek and Latin authors. He then began studying philosophy in 1629.

Definition/Explanation: The basic Definition/Explanation of social/political contract is individuals give up some of their freedoms for the protection of other rights.

Thomas Hobbes: In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes talks about the concerns of the structure of society and ligament government. In Leviathan Thomas Hobbes argues that there should be a social contract with a full government. Thomas Hobbes was one of the earliest philosopher to articulate detailed social contract ideas. Thomas Hobbes also created the "state of nature" in which he explains that without government people would be in an "all against all war".

Social Contract is one of the foundations for American government. American is founded around the people and the state only exists to serve the will of the people. The people sought protection for their well-being from a state. Once that power was given to the state, the people relinquished the right to that power. That would become the price we pay for protection.
