Rabaul is about 130 km west of the volcano. The population was last recorded in 1990 with 17,044 people. Rabaul has been destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1984. According to the last statistics, another volcanic eruption would cause the ash to destroy 80% of Rabaul's buildings. The city would be forced to evacuate to Kokopo, which is about 12 miles from Rabaul. Tourism has died down ever since the 1994 eruption, but it was known for scuba diving and boating.
I think the most interesting fact about Ulawun is that it it the 8th most dangerous volcano in the world! It is condered dangerous because of the past twenty-eruptions and its lack of stability.
Ulawun is known as "The Father Volcano" because of its surrounding of smaller, younger volcanos.

The reason why we chose our volcano is because it is one of the top 10 most dangerous volcanoes in the world, it's easy to spell, and we liked how it looked.
