The Flagella/Cilia/ The Wheel

The Vacuoles/ Vesicles/ Cabinets(Food)

The Centrioles/ Closets

-Centrioles is a eukaryotic cell that to help with cell division in animal cells.

-Centrioles help form fibers that separate the chromosomes during cell division

-One analogy used to describe Centrioles would be closets because you use closets to organize shirts, pants, underwear, etc. on shelves just like how centrioles uses cell division.

-The vacuoles and vesicles are sacs used for storage inside eukaryotic cells. Vesicles are smaller than vacuoles and have more cells.

-Vesicles stores different types of molecules and vacuoles store water.

One analogy used for the vacuoles/vesicles would be the kitchen cabinets because you store food in water in the cabinets such as you store water and molecules in the vacuoles/vesicles.

-A flagella is organelle used by cells and microorganisms for movement. A cilia is an organelle found in eukaryotic cells. They help cells move around and help move substances around cells.

The Mitochondria/Grandma's Cooking

-They are the same, but have some different characteristics. Cilia are shorter than flagella, but carry more room for cell. Flagella is longer, but dont have the same space that Cilia has.

- One analogy used for the Flagella/ Cilia would be the family car because you need wheels to drive the car. Flagella moves the say way as the wheels do in the cell.

-Mitochondria is an organelle found in most cell. The cell turn sugars, fats and proteins that we eat, into forms of chemical energy that the body can use to carry on living.

- The mitochondria performs cellular respiration. It takes in nutrient, breaks it down into pieces, and the pieces are turned into energy.

-One analogy used is Grandma's cooking because it gives you energy and nutrients. The food fills you up and gives you the proteins that you need.

The Lysosomes/ The Trash Can

-Lysosomes is an organelle that contains enzymes and breaks down macromolecules, proteins, acids, and etc.

The Ribosomes/ Food

The Smooth ER/ Incinerator

-Lysosomes breakdown dead stuff such as food, bacteria, and old parts of a cell. It uses apoptosis which is programmed for cell death.

-Ribosomes are a large complex of RNA and proteins . Ribosomes build proteins from amino acids using messenger RNA.

-The Smooth ER is part of a continuous membrane organelle within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells that produces the new cellular membrane.

-One analogy used for a lysosome would be the garbage can. After you finish with the plate of food, you throw the leftovers or the plate in the garbage because it is now waste.

-Ribosomes are free in the cytoplasm and are often attached to the membrane of the ER. They are both prokaryotic/ eukaryotic.

The Smooth ER is the opposite of the Rough ER, which has ribosomes for protein synthesis on its surface. It releases calcium ions and processes toxins. It is also responsible for the transportation of proteins and other carbohydrates to other organelles.

-One analogy used for the ribosomes is the food that we eat. Our body needs proteins and acids to function on a daily basis.

One analogy that The Smooth ER is compared to is the garbage disposal area(incinerator). The garbage area has blades that breaks down food into small pieces

The Rough ER/ Hallway in the House

-The Rough ER(Endoplasmic Reticulum) is the appearance of its outer surface, which is studded with protein-synthesizing particles known as ribosomes.

The Golgi Apparatus/ The Laundry Room

- The Golgi Apparatus is an organelle found in most eukaryotic cells that is located in the cytoplasm next to the endoplasmic reticulum and near the cell nucleus.

The Rough ER surrounds the nucleus and is around the Golgi Apparatus (later explained), which packs and transports proteins for delivery to other locations in the cell.

-Golgi Apparatus modifies proteins and lipids that have been built in the ER and prepares them for exportation outside of the cell or transportation to other locations in the cell.

-One analogy used for the Rough ER is the hallway of the house because it gets the family members around the house such as to the backyard, bathroom, kitchen, etc.

-One analogy used for the Golgi Apparatus would be the laundry room. The laundry room cleans the dirty clothes and dries them.

The Cytoplasm/ Mom

- Cytoplasm is a thick, jelly-like type of fluid that fills the cell up. The cytoplasm consists of all of the contents outside of the nucleus of a membrane bound cell.

The Nucleus/ The House

-The cytoplasm keeps the whole cell in a shape. If a cytoplasm didn't exist, the whole cell wouldn't even be functioning and won't contain all the organelles. The cytoplasm holds up every part of the cell and does mainly all the work.

-The Nucleus is an organelle in the eukaryotic cell that contains the cell's genetic material of DNA molecules and proteins to make chromosomes.

-One analogy used between the cytoplasm and a family member would be a mom. The mother keeps everything in place such as the house/ laundry/ other necessities that are important in the everyday life.

The Nucleus is surrounded by the nuclear membrane which makes sure that the genes will stay functioning as a part of the cell. It has the most controls in the whole cell.

The Nucleolus/ Grandparents

-The Nucleolus is the largest structure in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells located in the middle of the nucleus of the cell.

-One analogy used for the Nucleus would be the family house. The house is where everybody sleeps, eats, people come over, basically a control center.

-The nucleolus contains genes for the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) which goes out to the cell to make ribosomes.

-One analogy used between the nucleolus and a family member would the grandparents house. The grandparents house is usually where all family members meet up for events, after church, or just for a good time.

The Cell Membrane/ Father

-Cell Membrane A.K.A Plasma/Cytoplasmic membrane is a layer that seperates the cells inside the body from going into the outside world/being spreaded to other people.

-The reason of a cell membrane is to be a gate that opens and closes. The cell membrane only allows a few type of substances to pass through, while others cant pass through which are bad for the body. The membrane implants protein in the membrane to keep the process going.

-One analogy used between the cell membrane and a family member would be a father because he is the man in the family and has the most say so on who he does or does not want in his home/is in charge of the house usually.
