Learning Objective: You will be able to model an object by slicing.

Essential Question: Is there a "best" axis to slice along?

  • Today's work: Complete the sliced vegetable model.

Announcement! 3D Modeling Final Exam - tomorrow, May 30th!

Do Now: Below are three versions of the same model, all of which have been modeled by slicing. How are they different? Which version do you think "works" best for this model? Why?

Modeling with Slices

Group Activity

No matter how you slice it...? Part 2!

  • Your group will be given a piece of cardstock.
  • Trace an outline of each slice on the cardstock.
  • Number each outline according to which slice it is (first slice is number 1, second slice 2, etc...). You decide where to begin, just be prepared to explain your numbering scheme.
  • Raise your hand when your done. In 8 minutes, we'll all present our work to the rest of the class.

No matter how you slice it...?

  • Your group will be given a sliced fruit or vegetable.
  • Your first task is to arrange the slices in order and make your produce whole again.
  • Then count the total slices that you have and decide along which axis your vegetable or fruit was sliced.
  • When your group has finished, raise your hand. A teacher will come over and confirm your work.
