What is CGI?

Response Object

A Common Gateway Interface is a way for the web server to send the web user a request for an application program and to receive data that is to be forwarded to the user.

i.e.

When the user requests a Web page (for example, by clicking on a highlighted word or entering a Web site address), the server sends back the requested page. (it is commonly written in Pearl)

The Response object is used to send output to the user from the server

Request Object

The CGI: Request Object represents a single submission from a WWW user.

It understands the concepts of HTML forms and fields.

A CGI::Request object contains a reference to a CGI::Base object. It uses the services of that object to get the raw request information.

(When a browser asks for a page from a server, it is called a request. The Request object is used to get information from a visitor. )
