Jane Addams

Importance in education

Jane Addams was a well-known sociologist, philosopher, feminist and author, among other things

Jane believed that education provided citizens with the knowledge they needed to improve the lives of all citizens in a community.

Other Information

She earned her bachelor's degree from Rockford college for Women in 1910 where she was President and valedictorian of her class.

Second woman to win the nobel peace prize

in 1889 she opened the Hull house in Chicago where immigrants and those living in poverty were able to be housed and cared for as well as a place of education for children and adults.

Jane had a huge influence on education and society in general. Jane expressed that education should provide students with broad experiences rather than just fit students to a certain job.
