THE END

Again, the people became unhappy. Why was the Politburo neglecting the poor and refusing to listen to the people? Why wasn't everything equal like Mao had promised with Communism? The people wanted power and they wanted to pick their own leader.

Today China continues to evolve having been shaped by its communist, Confucius, and briefly democratic past. It continues to move towards an authoritarian system of government.

However, the Chinese people liked this regime only a little more than the last. So a man by the name of Mao Zedong became the leader of China basing his new regime on the theory of his self- named ideology, Maoism, along with the theory of Communism.

Then, one day, the people became unhappy with the royal families' harsh rule. Then a new leader, Sun Yat- sen, ended the rule of the dynasties and began a new regime which focused on the idea of democracy.

So the government continued on its way. The Chinese government officials moved in and out of office using techniques such as the patron- client system, a political hierarchy based on who you know rather than expertise in the area of politics. Most of the politically important relationships were made up of families

who helped Mao Zedong in his rise to power.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a large land surrounded on one side by ocean and one side by land. Here a large nation made their home among the mountains, deserts, and shores; and was fenced in by a great wall. This land was called

China, or as the citizens would call it, the

Middle Kingdom.

China was ruled by royal families who claimed they were hand chosen by the gods. These families were called dynasties and they held all of the power in the Middle Kingdom.

One sunny day in the summer, these people decided to act. They held protests in their city. Unfortunately for them, the political elites just did not want to listen. They liked their power.

So on June 3rd, the government leaders showed the

people that they were in control, and after the

morning of June 4th, in a place called Tiananmen Square,

the people submitted to the government

and were never heard from again.

Mao continued to radicalize his views until his death, where upon the Politburo took power and became legitimate leaders.

As time went on, a new leader named Deng Xiaoping moved into power. Deng Xiaoping founded his own theory, like Mao Zedong, that used both socialist and capitalist theories in an attempt to efficiently run the government.

Mao wanted to help the peasants of the empire so he developed a means of communication between the people and the leaders of the country. This was called the mass line system and was created so the peasants could share their opinions and voice their needs.
