James "Kimo" Sanders III faced several charges of dealing meth at the Halawa prison.

It is suggested that there is corruption in which the guards are linked with gang members in the prison and are smuggling illegal item into the prison for prisoners.

CI is a rehabilitation program in Hawaii’s correctional facilities that provides real world work experience to inmates, teaching them skills and a positive work ethic to prepare them for their release and employment in the community. Goal is to create more law abiding citizens who will help the economy and state as a whole.

  • Hawaii's Black/White ratio is 1.9, which is much better compared to Iowa, which has 13.6.
  • The crime rate in Hawaii (2011) was about 14% higher than the national average rate. (3,625 per 100,000)
  • Property/non-violent crimes account for around 92% of the crime rate in Hawaii which is about 18% higher than the national rate.
  • The remaining 8% are violent crimes and are about 17% lower than other states. The following graph.

  • Honolulu has a population of about 950,000, and is by far the largest city in Hawaii, as well as the most dangerous.
  • Honolulu saw 2,456 violent crimes, 19 murders and 31,668 instances of property damage. It also had high rates of larceny with 22,007 cases and auto theft with 3,901 cases.
  • As a whole Hawaii has a pretty low rate of violent crimes.
