The First 9 Presidents

George Washington

George Washington was the first president of the United States of America. He was born on February 22, 1732 in Pope's Creek,Westmorland County, Virginia. Little is known about George Washington's childhood, and this has caused many fables to flourish. Among the stories, we were able to find out that George Washington was home schooled and in his early teenage years he had mastered growing tobbaco, stock raising, and surveying.

George Washington became president after the Constitution was made because of his strong leadership and dedication to our country during the Revolutionary war.

John Adams

John Adams was the second president

of the United States of America. He was

born October 30, 1735 in Braintree (now

Quincy), Massachusetts. At age 16, John

Adams earned a scholarship to attend

Harvard University, where he began to

to gain interest in law.

John Adams was elected to become the

president on March 4, 1797. He served as

president for four years and then declined

a second term for presidency.

Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the

United States of America. He was born April 13,

1743 in Shadwell, Goochland County, now

Albemarle County, Virginia. Thomas Jefferson went to College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia and received a law degree.

Thomas Jefferson became president on March 4,

1801 and spent eight years in office (two four year terms). He declined a third year term on March 3, 1809.

James Madison

James Madison was the fourth president

of the United States of America. He was

born on March 16, 1751 in Port Conway,

Virginia. James Madison attended the

College of New Jersey, now called

Princeton University. He graduated on

September 25, 1771 and received a law

degree.

James Madison was elected to became

president on March 4, 1809. James

Madison served for two terms and then

retired.

James Monroe

James Monroe was the fifth president of the

United States of America. He was born on

April 28, 1758 in Westmoreland County,

Virginia. James Monroe attended college at

College of William and Mary,Williamsburg,

Virginia. He graduated in the year of, 1776

with a law degree.

James Monroe was the president from March

4, 1817 to March 3, 1825. James Monroe served

8 years as president and then became a very

successful writer.

John Quincy Adams

John Quincy Adams was the sixth president

of the United States of America. He was born

on July 11, 1767 in Braintree (now Quincy),

Massachusetts. John Quincy Adams was the

son of John Adams (the second president of

the United States of America) and was the

second child in a family of five. Just like his

father John Quincy Adams attended Harvard

College.

John Quincy Adams was elected president on

March 4, 1825 and served as president for

only four years (one term) and then worked

as a congressman.

Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of

the United States of America. Andrew Jackson

was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaw,

South Carolina. Growing up in Waxhaw,

Andrew Jackson received an erratic education.

He did not go to college, but he became a

soldier for the United States army.

Andrew Jackson became president on March

4, 1829 and declined a third term on March 3,

1837. He served a total of 8 years as president

and then after he quit he retired from office.

Martin Van Buren

Martin Van Buren was the eighth president of the United States of America. He was born on December 5, 1782 in Kinderhook, NewYork. Martin Van Buren did not go to college or get any type of degree, but he still managed to became a successful

lawyer.

Martin Van Buren became president on March 4,

1837 and continued his presidency for one term

(four years). He declined a third term on March 3,

1841, and from there he retired.

William Henry Harrison

William Henry Harrison was the ninth president of the United States of America. He was born on February 9, 1773 in Berkely, Charles City County, Virginia. William Henry Harrison went to Hampden-

Sydney College, but did not graduate. Even though

he did not graduate from college William Henery Harrison still managed to be a successful soldier for our country.

William Henry Harrison became president for America on March 4, 1841 and then died 32 days later from freezing to death. Then John Tyler took over office.
