Noteworthy Accomplishments

Society

- They had many back and fourth battles with Egypt that lasted from 500-1100 B.C.

- They were some of the first to use Iron for weapons and such.

-They had a good Military.

- They captured a lot of land.

- There are still Hittites alive today in the world.

Religion

- Agrarian/ nationalistic culture

- Women had more importance than the usual at this epoch, but they were still traited as objects.

- Slavery was severe, power of life and death.

- Had a massive amount of silver which they used as currency as well as crops and cattle

- Their primary activity was trading amongst themselves and other civilizations --- spreading of culture

Self-actualization

- Had many gods as they constantly indoctrenated new beliefs and gods into their religion as they conquered other people. Antropomorphic.

- Believed in the after life ( i.e. Dark Earth, kuntarra house).

- Examples:

- Hannahanna --- Mother of all gods

- The Conquerer (Hurrian's Teshub, Taru, Luwains Tarhun) --- most powerful god

- Telepinus (the noble god) --- God of agriculture and fertility

- Feared by opposing nations during their reign.

- Often referred as barbarians

- Had one of the neolithic ages most powerful army.

-Battled the egiptians twice and survived.

- Sacked Babylon and brought their empire to its knees.

- Their empire stretched from Mesopotamia to Syria -and Palestine.

-Invented iron.

Language

- Hittites may have spoken a language from the Indo-European language family

- Tablets were excavated from the ruins of Hattusa

- In 1906 about 10000 clay tablets script were recovered

- The language was deciphered about 10 years after it was discovered
