1929 - Germany mortgaged their things to America’s banks to help pay of the reparation but they were the worst hit in the Wall Street Crash

Germany

1930. After America enters a depression, Germany is hit hard. Unemployment was on the rise again. Then the Nazi Party came in with 19% of the popular vote.

Bauhaus

1919 - 1983 - The textile workshop created abstract textiles, which were commercially successful and adorned the interiors of Bauhaus buildings

1937 - New Bauhaus was established by Moholy-Nagy in Chicago.

1919 - Bauhaus was founded in the city of Weimar by German Architect Walter Gropius.

1923 - Walter Gropius manipulated the goals of Bauhaus. Stressing the importance of designing for mass production.

Germany

1919 - The end of the First World War, Germany were 2 million people short and 4 million had been wounded. They had no money left and were still embargoed by the Allies. Most were unemployed and the prices of things were constantly rising.

1921 - Germany was hit with a £6.6 billion bill for reparation. They had the Christmas and New Year period to pay it off but could not. Because of this France and Belgium troops took part of Germany and used the production there as a payment. The effect of that is unemployment rose and prices rose even more. 1923 - December 1923 1 USD was worth 4,200,000,000,000.

Bauhaus

1930 - Meyer resigned as director due to pressure from an increasingly right-wing municipal government. He was replaced by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

1930 - The increasingly unstable political state of Germany plus the financial condition of Bauhaus forced Mies to relocate the school to Berlin, but it operated on a reduced scale

1933 – Finally, Mies had no other choice but to shut down Bauhaus.

During World War II, many key figures of Bauhaus emigrated to the United States, where their work and teachings influenced countless young designers.

Germany

1933 - Hitler came into power and was sworn chancellor. He then changed Germany forever.

1924-1928 - The cabinetmaking workshop was very popular

1925 - Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau.

1928 - Gropius stepped down as director of Bauhaus, replaced by Hannas Meyer

Germany

1924 - In 1924 Gustav Stresemann was the man to bring Germany into the “Golden Age” He managed to stabilize the German Currency and helped the recovery of the reparation payments. He then put a new currency in place called the Rentenmark which helped Germany’s economy grow even more.
