The preferential option for the poor has two parts.
1. It involves freely choosing to become friends or partners with those who are poor and taking on their problems as our problems. Christians are called to see Christ in all people, but especially those who are poor and vulnerable. This is the choice to think of the poor as part of "us" than "those people". For those who are themselves poor or vulnerable, this choice means standing by other people in the same situation rather then trying to take advantage of them and getting ahead.
2.
People who are spiritually poor can be materially rich or materially rich; This kind of poverty has many causes. We as christians need to show them with love and compassion of Christ. We can help them with our friendship and caring. We can show them how to have a relationship with God through prayer and the sacrament. We can help them to develop the skills that are necessary to have healthy relationships with other people, Lastly, we can invite them through participation in the life of church.
The option for the poor and the vulnerable means a commitment to take action to transform any injustices that prevent them form realizing their God - given dignity. If social policies or community attitudes prevent people from moving out of poverty or keeping a certain group of people on the fringes of society then we as humans need to advocate their rights and we need to become a "voice for the voiceless".

-The word "preferential" means giving an advantage to a particular person or group. In the Old and New Law it talks about how to have concern for the people who are vulnerable and are in need.
-The term Universal Destination of Goods is a principle which talks about how all the things in this world belong to God and he provided all these goods so that human beings can always live with dignity.
All people are created in the image of God and we owe each other help in the time of need. The vulnerable may not include the poor, but women, children, the aged, persons with disabilities, & the prisoners. There are always some kind of way to help & here are some options.
There are many people that are still in need of help but they never get noticed.
- Another important key to end poverty would be high quality education. Only one in 10 children who grow up in poverty will graduate from college.
- There are many people in the world that are unemployed or have low wages and sometimes they wake up the next day not knowing if they can produce food for their family or not.
We can come up with some sort of fund raising that helps a child in a third world country who will be able to have the chance to get an education and try to achieve something in their life-time.
- A great way to end this would be you can go to a nearby church and donate a food can or a piece of clothing that will be helpful to the community.
