Gracie and I think that in Japan the education is better then it is here in America, because you learn a lot more. Schools in Japan teach you how to cook and sew, you can even learn all of that in elementary school.

Since the crime rate is so low, kids as young as elementary schoolers can walk to school by themselves and go on the subway by themselves.

Japan is very mountainous, in fact over half of Japan is covered with mountains. Japan also has many islands. The four largest islands in Japan are Kyushu, Shikoko, Hokkaido, and Honshu. The weather in Japan is also very different from the weather in America, like in January it's hot in Japan unlike in America when it's cold.

Traditional clothes: Kimonos- Often made from silk. The kimono is often worn with a wide belt called the Obi.

Modern clothes: Jeans, polo's, sweat suits (sweat shirts and pants) and t-shirts.

The food in Japan is very different then it is here in America.

Some foods in Japan are:

  • Sushi- Seafood, rice, and sometimes seaweed or sauce
  • Pokeys- A pretzel like stick covered with chocolate
  • Tempura- A Japanese snack mostly made from seafood and vegetables
  • Vegetables cooked in broth
  • Japanese rice
  • Pickled vegetables
  • Seafood often grilled

In Japan about everyone speaks Japanese, but most everyone knows how to speak English, but choose to speak Japanese. Here are some words in Japanese.
