The creation of the term 'Genocide'

How the term was coined

Raphael Lemkin originally coined the term genocide in "Axis Rule in Occupied Europe" This term would eventually be used by the United Nations to describe the mass killing of a group of people due to national, racial, ethnic, or religious group of a people.

The term was coined due to the mass murder of populations, originally the Armenians, in the 20th century, eventually the term became used to describe a crime against humanity.

The term originally used to describe an event along this scale was "Massacre", which was used as a means to describe a mass murder.
