Rating Scale

A rating scale is used to measure a behavior, skill, or ability base on a series of quality points or a continuum. Rating something on a scale of 1-10 is using a rating scale. Rating scales can also be used to rate environments on their developmental appropriateness. Two different types of rating scales are numeric (numbers) and linguistic (word) rating scales. The difference between the two are one uses words to rate things and the other uses number. Both of them are very good, except that they are both used for different types of cituations.

Examples of a Running Records

A running record is an account of what a child is doing while they are doing as it is happening. Use a running record to track a child's choice of activities or behaviors over a short period of time. Running records are also used to document what a child does over time. Running records can be used to record what a child is doing as they are doing it. Two different types of running records are the Reading A to Z and Learning NC. Both of these running records are the same in the fact that they both use the letters MSV in the two columns on the right. Both of them also use ratios to how the kids read. The difference between the two is the Learning NC running record allows you to make notes when you are done, unlike the Reading A to Z.

Anecdotal Records

Anecdotal records are a narrative account of an event written shortly after it occurred. They do not contain references to emotions, feelings, or other details that cannot be measured. It tells what a child did, when he did it, how he did it, and what happened afterward. Two different types of anecdotal records are the PreKinders and the Learner.org. The difference between the two is that learner.org has four different places for things and the PreKinders has a place for the materials used, the observation, and quotes that the child had said.
