I think we've reached the summit of our trip. Thanks for taking this wonderful journey hiking up Wizard Island with us!
Wizard Island is not associated with a plate boundary because it was formed after the former (not working anymore) Mt. Mazama's original eruption.
Wizard Island is a cinder-cone, explosive, volcano. It has only erupted once, in 4,600 B.C., but it was massive!
Wizard Island is now a part of Crater Lake which was formed after the former Mt. Mazama erupted approximately 7,700 years ago. After the eruption, one of the environmental effects is the creation of Crater Lake, which is a home to many birds, fish, trees, the Crater Lake National Park, and many other beautiful environmetal features.
Fun facts!
Following the violent eruption, which left a hole about 4,000 feet deep, a series of smaller eruptions started to form. In one of those eruptions, Wizard Island was formed and rises over 2,700 feet above the lowest point on the caldera (a special type of volcanic crater) floor and the deepest point in the lake.
Wizard Island is located in Crater Lake National Park, Oregon.
