Inspiration

Pérotins work has had a huge effect in many famous musicians over time. One of the most famous composers that has used similar styles as Pérotin is Steve Reich. Steve has repeadelty said how much is songs are influenced by Perotins work. Steve has had multiple compositions that have been very famous. Given the fame that Steve has had it shows that Perotin has the ability to have a huge effect on the musical world.

Memorable

Pérotins compositions are one of the most memorables from his time period because the little knowledge that people had of music. During the time that Pérotin lived there was little to no knowledge of enjoyable music. Given that Pérotin had alot of contributions in the musical world many people saw him as a revolutionary and master of music. Overall, not many is known about music from that time period so people see Pérotin as the revolutionor of music.

Pérotins compositions and contributions in the musical world have been very effective in the type of music that we hear nowadays.His contributions have had effect in our eclectic musical world becuase many singers and artist love the effect that more than one voice has in a song. Pérotins organum is used in churchs all over the world but it is also used in the pop and rap world of music. Many rappers and pop singers enjoy the effect that encorporating more than once voice in a song has. Overall, Pérotins contribution to the musical world have been speechless and many see him as a master of music.

Contributions to Music

Pérotin had a myraid of contributions in the musical world. One of the things that was most revolutionary was his decision to incorporate more than one voice into a singing performance. This invention led him to create many different compositions and was the stepping stone of two-part, three-part, and four-part songs. Pérotin also created the chord, which is a cluster of simultaneous notes. Eventhough, there is many debate if Pérotin created the chord or if it was someone else, he had a huge contribution on the way that we use it nowadays. Another contribution of Pérotin was finding a system in notating rhythem with church music. This system involved shortening and craketing terms into a horizontal bar; he named this system a ligature. Pérotins compositions had an advanced form of harmony that was not normal for that era. During the time of Pérotin, mostly Plainchant music was being heard but Pérotins contibution led to a replacement with polyphonic music. Pérotin also had a huge contribution on Organum, which is the musical stlye that can be defined as two or more musical voices singing together on different notes. Pérotins most famous organum style was Discant, which is when the rhythm in both voices move using modal rhythms. Overall, Pérotin had a huge effect in the musical world.

Overall, many of Pérotins compositions are very well known. During this era not many musicans can create four-part works so this makes him outstanding.He composed three four-part works: Viderunt, Sederunt, and Mors. These compositions were the stepping stone for alot of other musicians success. It is beleived that Pérotin also composed three part-works which are when there are three voices in a compositon. These compostions are known as: Allelui "Posui adiutorium" and Allelui "Nativitas". Pérotin also has compositions like: Clausula, Snce Germane, Presul nostri temporis, Salvatoris hoodie, Et Valde, Dum sigillum summi Patris, Benedicamous Domino, Beata viscera, and different forms fo Allelula. All of these compositions are very well known but they don't compare to the success that his four-part and three-part compostions had. For the most part all of Pérotins works are conducted with more than one voice but some compositions are more memorable than other.

Overall,not much is known about Pérotin's life. Historians are not even sure on what hig physical apperance was. What is known about him is that he worked at the cathedral of Notre-Dame in Pars. He wrote alot of his compositions with another memeber of this cathedrial,Léoni. Most of Pérotins work were very revolutionary and they had a huge impact in they type of music that we nowadays. The only things that are known about Pérotin is his name,titles of work, achievements, and stories from memebers and friends. Pérotin had the respect from all of the members in the cathedral, many people even saw him as the master of all of the works he has ever done. Pérotin focused on both writen compositions and musical compositions that can be sung. For the mostpart it is said that he enjoyed music to a great extent. He also focused on writing three-and four-part compositons during his life. His musical techiques are used in centuries after he created them. For the most part, Pérotins life was very adventrous and he focused alot of his time in the musical world. All of compositons are known from musicians all over the world.

Biography

• Pérotin was a french composer born in Paris,France. He was born in the year 1155/1600. Given that there isn't enough paperwork from that time period, nobody knows the year in which he was actually born. What historians have found is that it is from 1155-1600. The death of Pérotin occurred in the kingdom of france, in the year 1200-1205. Once again given the scarcity of materials that we have from that time period his death is not perfectly dated.

• Pérotin started his career in the administration of Norte Dame Cathedral. Many people believe that Pérotin was a very important and powerful member of the Norte Dame school of polyphony. Pérotin influenced the Norte Dame Cathedral by composing many different types of works and creating different methods for music to be more enjoyed. He was a huge influence in the musical classification that we know today as polyphony. He asked a very broad questions which gave him lots of wonderful results. His question was "What would happen if you add more than one voice into a song?" This question led the ideology of polyphony to be mastered. Pérotin was very advanced in the musical world for the ideas and concepts that he invented. He is believed to have created a cluster of simultaneous notes; which is called a chord. Throughout this time in the cathedral the music he composed had a widespread of chords being performed. Pérotin also created a system in which it was easier to notate rhythm in a composition. His method focuses on seeking shorter notes that are bracketed by a horizontal bar; he named this system ligature.
