What does it mean to be a human from a Catholic perspective?

By: Laura Isabel Vargas Marin

One key of what it means to be human from a Catholic perspective, is that we are created by the creation and likeness of God which in the book of Genesis it tells us how the Lord created us. Which it also makes us to be good, because God is good and He declared us the creature of good. Also that we are instruments of God, and he has a plan for each one of us.

We are humans because God has also put a desire for us to be happy and to search that missing part of us that could make us happy which is Him. By us wanting to search that happiness we would need to be searching in his paths to be able to find it.

What does it mean to be a Human from a Catholic Perspective?

To be human from the catholic perspective, is that we are God's creation. We know that we are humans because

the Bible teaches us and tells us that we are:

As Humans God gave us rationality and freedom. We are rationals because He wanted us to be able to make our own decision and distinguish the good from the bad, for us to be able to be also free. God also gave freedom to humans to teach us hoe to make our own decision and to be able to direct ourselves to the good paths.

Capable of passions

or feelings.

Rational and free.

Created in the image and likeness of God.

Called to happiness and holiness.

We are also humans because are capable of passions and feelings. One of them is the feeling of belonging, as humans we feel the important need to belong in our society and culture is part of who we are. Also as humans we have the need to have one another and to love each other. Like God love his creation and his creation loves him.
