Masculine cultures value achievement, competitiveness, and strength. Men and women usually have very different roles in society. This means men work, while women often stay home to take care of the house.

  • What is Feminine culture?

Feminine cultures value cooperative, nurturing and focused on quality of life. In feminine cultures, there is less division of gender roles.

  • What is High-context communication?

In high-context communication, it requires a lot of background information to understand what the speaker wants to say.

  • What is Low-context communication?

In low-context communication, it doesn’t require much information to get the purpose of the speaker.

What is individualism?

Individualistic cultures have an “I identity”. This means that “I” is the center of the action. Such cultures value individual achievement and personal values.

What is collectivism?

Collectivistic cultures have a “WE identity”. This means that “we the group” work together to take action. In such cultures, people first tend to think about the needs of the group, before taking about one’s own personal values.

Real life examples(RLE) about Power distance

  • What is large power distance ?

People accept the idea that power is divided and that a hierarchy is a

normal part of life. In such cultures, people’s position in society is very clear

  • What is small power distance?

People favor equal rights and responsibilities for all people. People in small power distance societies value equality and independence.

In Australia...

  • People tend to wear casual clothes,not wearing suits and tie even in the workplace. But they still pick clothes depend on each situation.
  • Students and teachers talk friendly and they are in close relationship.
