The Oahu Tree Snail

Reproduction and Lifespan

Adult tree snails are hermaphrodites, meaning they have both male and female reproductive organs, and the snails have a comparatively long lifespan, which is estimated to be about ten years in the wild.

However, the tree snails have a very low reproductive rate, and only become able to breed after three to five years. Coupled with their low birth rates (4-7 offspring per year), the snails have a hard time repopulating an area after being depleted.
