Culture

Hohokam had rituals such as; ball courts, pyramidal structures and they were similar to the Aztecs. Traded heavily with neighboring tribes, such as the Aztecs, Hopis and Sinagua. They would use trade routes going through present day New Mexico. Created lots of religious pottery.

Interesting Facts

The Hohokam tribe originated from Mexico, and then moved to parts of Arizona. Archaeologists found a culture that were the ancestors of the Hohokam. They may have occupied southern Arizona as early as 2000 B.C. They were firs hunter-gatherers then became permanent communities. Also farmed.

The Hohokam tribe lived in the southwest region of the USA, in current day Arizona. The Hohokam tribe adapted to their environment by creating canals to grow crops. They altered their environment by digging long canals from rivers, to access nearby water.

The Hohokams Innovations

The Hohokam's were the first people in the south-western area of the USA to use canals for irrigation. They also lived in circular houses. They grew corn, cotton and tepary beans.
