European's Arrival to Canada

In the 1500's the Europeans were greeted by the Natives and exchanged goods benefiting from each other in their new relationship. Then in the 1700's European armies invaded their land and killed thousands of Natives with; force and diseases. This caused surviving Natives to move to more remote places in Canada in order to save what was left of their culture. Later in the early 1900's the government started enrolling Natives children into residential schools, as an act of "aggressive assimilation" because it was easier to remove the Native culture from the children. This lead to an increase in alcohol abuse in Natives from their past in residential schools.
