Ecology – the science of the relationships between organisms and their environments

Human Ecology – the branch of sociology that is concerned with studying the relationships between human groups and their physical and social environments; the study of the detrimental effects of modern civilization on the environment, with a view toward prevention and reversal through conservation.

Ecosystem – a system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their physical environment; the sum total of interactive influences operating within an individual’s life in varying degrees of proximity, ranging from his or her biologically determined characteristics to the broader sociocultural context structuring human interactions
