The rulers of the Gupta Empire encouraged trade using a system of well built roads they had created. Engineers would first clear the road by removing plants, trees, and rocks. Then the roads were packed down with dirt. To prevent flooding canals, or ditches were dug along either side of the road. They also built signs and rest houses along the roads. Roads also connected India to China. Roads are another achievement that shows that the Gupta Empire is a golden age because it helped the empire grow wealthy.

The time of the Gupta Empire was a time of learning. The people of the Gupta Empire built many universities around the empire. Buddhist and Hindu philosophy were instructed. There were many classes students could take like astronomy, chemistry, Sanskrit, dancing, music and more. Also if a student was a learning medicine they would learn how to make cures from bark, roots, leaves, and minerals.This shows that the Gupta Empire was a golden age because it was exiling in many types of education.
The Gupta Empire was known for its paintings. Most paintings included deities and other religious topics. Art was important for the wealthy they had to have some kind of painting board or a easel. Royalty often hired artists to create works of art. Artists also made cave murals using paints made out of minerals and clay. The golden age was shown through painting by it flourishing throughout the empire.
Gupta writers wrote many types of literature like poetry, fables, and folktales in Sanskrit. They also made plays about historical and political subjects. Scholars and lawyers wrote other forms of writing such as Hindu law and religion. Literature shows that the Gupta Empire was a golden age because it was successful in spreading its stories about their beliefs.
