Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany on June 12, 1929. She was the younger sister out of her and Margot, which was 3 years older. Her parents, Edith and Otto Frank, were both Jews. In 1933, Edith and Otto thought the Frank family would be safer in Amsterdam ( The Netherlands), and for a while, they were right. After Hitler took down the German government, he began to attempt to create a "perfect race" and his first steps were getting ride of Jews.
The Germans hated the Jews and thought of them as evil. The mass killing Hitler created, was called the holocaust. Hitler also killed gypsies, homosexuals, mentally and physically disabled people, and other people who were against him and the holocaust, to eventually create his "perfect race". In 1935, Hitler passed a law stating Jews were not allowed to marry Germans, and he also took all their rights away. In 1938, Hitler destroyed any place the Jews went to. Soon after, thousands of Jews were arrested and taken to camps. Others were forced to live in crowded parts of the city or concentration camps and later died from spread of disease or starvation. Lucky Jews became slaves and had to work really hard to survival, but most were put into gas chambers and were killed with poisonous gas.
When the Nazi invaded The Netherlands, Otto and Edith Frank knew their family was not safe. From 1942-1944, the Frank family, along with the van Pels family ( August, Hermann, and Peter), and Fritz Pfeffer, were living in hiding in a secret annex in the office building of Otto Frank. They're lives all depended on the employees of Otto who were responsible for the well-being of the families. Betrayal leads to the arrest of those in hiding in 1944-1945. Victor Kugler, who was in charge of security and finance for the people in the annex, was imprisoned for helping the family. Anne was 15 when they were discovered and deported to camps. Anne first went to Westerbork ( a transit camp), then on to Auschwitz ( woman's camp). On October 30, 1944, she and Margot were moved to Bergen-Belsen, where they both died of typhus in March 1945. Otto Frank was the only surviving Frank. Miep Gies (one of the main helpers and a family friend of the Frank's) found Anne's diary and saved it, later giving it to Otto when he returned home after the war had ended. Somewhere between 1944-1957, Otto Frank published Anne's diary.
