HINDUISM
Main Idea
- many misconceptions about Hindu's are that they worship over millions of Gods, when really they are encouraged to worship many deities in order to relate to a God that best suits them
- they believe in one God of many forms and choose the form in which they'd like to seek God
- people often think that women are treated as less than males in the Hindu faith, which is another misconception tied with tradition because male and female are both treated as equals
- many Gods are in the form of females in the Hindu faith
CONCLUSION
- Each religion has specific characteristics that make them different from one another, but many of these characteristics are often confused with traditions of another country/culture, not the religion itself.
- This ted talk relates to our society today because it reminds us that despite what we hear or think we know about something, it's always beneficial to go out and find that information for yourself rather than believing everything you hear :)))
- Traditions can be developed from certain countries or cultures but this does not define the true message of a religion
- "If you are going to speak about Muslim culture, this has a core, the divine message which began the religion but then many traditions, perceptions, and practices were added on top of it." 2:47
Religious Modernism
- traditions change as people in certain countries become more aware of certain practices that are not likeable or preferable anymore
- can be applied to every religion

- people often have a false interpretation of the Buddhist faith when they assume things such as all Buddhists meditate or are vegetarians, when this is often based on ones tradition, not religion.
Muslim Modernism
- Buddhism, unlike other religions, is about following a path
- each Buddhist act depends on the sect of Buddhism in which one belongs to, not to everyone
- Muslim women are protesting against the mandatory rule of wearing the hijab in Iraq
- Women have been required to cover their hair when in public since 1979
- Women are rebelling by showing their hair in pictures and in public
False beliefs on Terrorism
- Terrorism is NOT linked with Islamic faith
- Extremists cause terrorism
- Extremists use the Islamic faith as an excuse to do evil
- "God told me to do it"
- people misinterpret the religion
- teachings of peace, love and worship in the holy Qur'an
Christianity
Christian Modernism
- Bibles tells us to go to church every Sunday; many Christians do not follow this anymore
- Divorce and remarriage are not allowed in Christianity; due to circumstances, couples don't follow this anymore
- Christmas is supposed to be holy and sacred; now a day for presents and "Santa Clause"
- Easter=Easter bunny
- Confession is being forgotten about
