Dissociative Amnesia

Comorbidity

Symptoms

People with dissociative amnesia also tend to suffer from depression and anxiety as a result of their loss of memory. They become frustrated with their loss of memory and are more susceptible to depression and anxiety.

Unlike regular amnesia, people with dissociative amnesia still have the memories in tact, they are just unable to access them. Symptoms include loss of memory for a specific time period, and confusion. In order to get dissociative amnesia, people must have experienced high levels of stress, a traumatic event, or sickness.

Oftentimes, people with dissociative amnesia take on new identities to replace their old ones. Dissociative amnesia can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few years.

Dissociative Amnesia with or without fugue

Definition

Dissociative Amnesia has two categories: with fugue or without fugue. With fugue, the person often travels away from home, and is unable to recall their identity. They lose memory of their past, and may even take on a new identity as they have forgotten who they are

Dissociative Amnesia is a type of dissociative mental disorder. People with dissociative amnesia tend to lose memory. This loss of memory is often triggered by painful or traumatic periods of time in their lives. They are unable to recall personal and important information.
