2.) Respiration

Flatworms do not have a respitory system but they do take in oxygen by integumentary exchange (through the bodies surface).

3.)Circulation

Flatworms also do not have a

circulatory system.

4.) Excretion

Yes, flatworms do excrete. They have two tubules connected to a duct system that

leads to the pores on all sides of the body.

The cells in the tubules are called flame cells. They filter waste like a kidney. The cilia push waste through excretory pores and they also get water from the interstitial fluid to allow filtration. Then, any useful metabolites are reabsorbed by the cell.

Seven Essential Life Functions

1.) Feeding: Yes flatworms do feed. They have one opening called the orifice which serves as both the mouth and anus. They have GVC (gastrovascular cavity). Tapeworms in particular have suckers and hooks on their mouth that allows them to latch on to their hosts intestinal walls.

Flatworms have sensory structures at the anterior (scolex) with two nerves going down their body. This is called cephalization. One example of their senses is eyespots which makes them sensitive to light.

4 Classes of Phylum

Platyhelminthes

1.)Trematoda (flukes)

parasitic.

2.) Class Cestoda (tapeworms)

parasitic.

3.) Monogenia. parasitic flatworm.

4.) Turbellaria (free living flat worms)

Movement

Flatworms move in several ways.

Some use muscular movement of their bodies. Others have soles underneath their bodies for locomotion. Also, some flatworms spit mucus. Some freshwater worms use their cilia to swim.

Monsters Inside Me.

What Makes a

flatworm a flatworm?

1.) They're the only organism that's both hermaphroditic and can reproduce by fragmentation and regeneration.

2.) They're the only hermaphrodites that can move in more than one way.

3.) Flatworms have an uncreative name

that fully describes their appearance.

So they are the only "FLAT" worms.

Unsegmented Worms.

Phylum

Platyhelminthes.

(flatworms).

Reproduction

Flatworms are hermaphrodites which means that they are both male and female; thus reproducing both asexually and sexually. They reproduce asexually by fragmentation and regeneration. They reproduce sexually by cross-fertilization of sperm and egg. The flatworm then lays eggs.
