Argument 2

Argument 1

Victoria’s suggestion about forming an off school facilitation and hiring more staff seems like a logical idea, though do to some factors, people have questioned why getting into the college would be so challenging. One of the factors would be that Texas A&M has a fully functional gym. Within this gym there is an indoor track, fitness classes, and lots of equipment for training. Another reason why people don’t see getting accepted into the university as such a difficult task would be because of CASA. There students can get help with their school assignments and even get extra credit to boost their grade from professors who give it. Victoria’s explanation on Texas A&M new rules seems understandable considering the fact that not everyone is in the best shape or as smart as Einstein, but with the on campus resources such as the two story gym and CASA which helps with lots of school subjects, it won’t be as hard for students to meet the physical standards required.

I understand that Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi wants to kill off 80% of its student population because the University can no longer adequately serve its current student population. Serving to the universities freshmen students is important to promote a healthy learning community but the way the university is going about the elimination of its freshmen population is and unfair and unjust platform. The elimination process of getting rid of students by lengthy intelligence exam and brutal physical fitness tests is unfair and unorthodox because to enter the university there are several transcript paperwork’s, SAT or ACT score reports or letters of recommendation etc. that allow for all freshmen students to have a fair and equal chance of being admitted into college because the same requirement information is being applied to every freshmen. This administration process of paperwork allows students to register regardless of their gender, ethnicity, fitness or physical attributes enabling an equal learning opportunity for freshmen students of all ages. An issue with these brutal fitness and intellectual tests is that just because if a student is a little less fit but passes the intellectual exam or vise versa that does not fully determine if they are a good student. Our purpose of this argument is that instead of eliminating freshmen students from the university based on an unfair intellectual and fitness tests, we argue that the university and the freshmen population should work together to create an off campus facilitation program. This off campus facilitation program would be used by freshmen and founded by the University to help one another on certain subject material due to the shortage of space on campus. Another solution reached, instead of these elimination tests, is to hire more teaching and cleaning staff to help run the University, therefore allowing more freshmen students to be admitted into the university. If we allow the University to eliminate the freshmen student population due to unfair fitness and intellectual tests will this lead to replace the means of administration into college by transcripts, ACT or SAT, GPA etc. paperwork?

An invitational argument calls for the arguer to pay attention and respect the audience and in effect, walk in their shoes. This type of argument is a respectful kind that enables both parties to completely understand each other's point of view and work toward a new understanding.

This type of argument aids in cross cultural communications. "It strives for connection, collaboration, and the mutual informed creation of knowledge" (Lunsford & ruszkiewicz, 2013).

Invitational Arguments

Real World Example:

Frederick Douglass's Speech "What to the Slave is the fourth of July"

The main goal of an invitational argument is not to win over the opponent, but to convince people to work together and identify with each other.

In his speech, he addresses the injustices upon his race then calls upon the citizens of the United States to help him with his vision, with his dream.

"...black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will e able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro Spiritual: "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" "

Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" Speech

In this speech Douglass invites his audience to see the way his race does.

"I am not included within the pale of this glorious anniversary"

He says this to shine light on his race not being extended the rights in the constitution therefore he cannot enjoy the celebration of the Fourth of July, and with this he wants his audience to see the issue and join together with him to fix it.
