Rights

The patricians had several privileges like being able to join the senate, go to school and have slaves. They were also able to marry people who are part of the royal family.

Leisure

Food

Patrician women would attend bathhouses daily to wash and socialise with other woman. They would also attend banquets, chariot races and watch gladiators fight to the death.

- Romans didn't have much furniture so they ate on low couches in a reclined position.

- The patrician women were known to have large banquets where a lot of food was consumed and the reclining position would help them digest the food they ate.

- Dinner would normally begin with shellfish, hard boiled eggs, olives or smoked fish, then they would wash it down with plenty of wine sweetened with honey. Then they would eat several meat courses, which were all heavily spiced with herbs or smothered in sauces, then it ended with cakes, pastries, fruit and nuts.

Shelter/housing

Appearance/clothing

The patricians were rich landowners. They often had a house in the city and a small cabin in the country that was run by slaves. Those who were wealthy lived in townhouses with central courtyards know as atriums.

Patrician women

- The patrician women wore tunics that were made out of wool or linen. The tunics didn't change very much, and under garments were worn.

- Being such a bulky and uncomfortable article of clothing, it became customary in later times to wear it only on state occasions.

- The presence or lack of stripes and patterns, indicated their social class.
