Comparative Essay

Why does evil exist? I personally believe that evil exists because there is good. There would be no point for good in the world if evil didn't exist. Evil and good will always have to be at a constant battle with each other. There are many different forms of evil. Destruction could be evil. After destruction comes a new beginning. Something good is happening. A new form of life is happening. FLDS members believe that evil exists because of Original Sin in the bible. I agree with that because Adam and Eve are meant to portray that evil was always lurking around the corner, just waiting for you to take a bite from it.

What makes something sacred? I believe that something that is sacred holds a purpose. It may be something that not all can see, or understand. If it is a certain act, only certain people can perform it or be able to see it at all. I usually associate something as sacred when it comes to religion or a place that people believe is holy and holds a deep spiritual purpose. Although, there is not a specific answer for this for the FLDS, I would assume that they would say anything that God has stated is sacred is sacred and certain holy things they do is sacred.

Why are we here? We are here to serve a purpose. To live. To grow. To breathe. To become something. We are here to reach an end goal. Heaven, Nirvana, something. Personally, I believe that it is Heaven. We are here to experience life and to fulfill it to the best of our ability.

FLDS believe that we are here to serve God, and reach the end goal of Heaven. To have children.

How should one attempt to live a moral life? You should spread good in the world. You should love. You should be open to people. You should be honest, without hurting people’s feelings. FLDS members would probably say to follow all of the doctrines that have been set in place.

Splinter Group

There is splinter group that has broken off that lies in Bountiful, Canada led by Winston Blackmore. There was a power struggle for who the leader would be after the passing of the elder Jeffs. Blackmore claims it was because Jeffs wanted him to help him execute a 16 year old girl who had attempted to run away from getting married. Winston Blackmore has married at least 25 women and has 100+ children, a majority of them being girls.

and Polygamy.
