In order to combat the Vietcong's expert use of the terrain to their advantage, the U.S. military utilized what is called Agent Orange

Agent Orange

  • a chemical designed to destroy the foliage
  • made bases and supply routes easier to see by air
  • had adverse effects on the people of the region
  • Birth defects

Using the Terrain to evade detection

The Vietcong hid base areas in remote swamps or forests

Underground tunnels provided safe supply routes
