- If a child is previously circumcised in a in areligiouly invalid way, or born with no foreskin, the same ceremony is held but
with only a symbolic pinprick of the tip of the penis. This ceremony is called the hatafat dam brit.
- The rite of circumcision is performed on the eighth day of a boy's life, usually takes place in the morning at the family's home
- It is performed by a mohel, an observant Jew educated in the relevant Jewish laws and in surgical techniques
- The procedure taked place with the sandek (grandparent or family rabbi) holding the infant on his lap
