- A homogeneous, noncrystalline substance consisting of large molecules or ultramicroscopic particles of one substance dispersed through a second substance.

- Ex: Smog, dust, whipped cream, mayonnaise, ink, marshmallow, jelly, etc.

1. Homogeneous mixture

- Can also be called a solution.

- Mixture which has uniform composition and properties throughout.

- Ex: Air is a homogeneous mixture of gases.

2. Heterogeneous mixture

- Is made of different substances that remain physically separate.

- Ex: A mixture of sand and sugar is a heterogeneous mixture.

1. Compound

- Substance formed when two or more chemical elements are chemically bonded together.

- Ex: Ionic and Covalent Bonds.

2. Element

- Composed of atoms that have the same atomic number.

- Ex: Coal, iron, etc.

A solute dissolves in a solvent.

Chemical formula is like the recipe of a compound.
