Under McKinley and then Teddy Roosevelt, this was concept in foreign affairs which allows multiple imperial powers to access China without owning it or taking it over.

Washington Conference

1921-1922 this meeting was sparked the increasing ignorance of the Open Door policy. America signed the Nine-Power Treaty which affirmed the integrity and independence of China with the Open Door Policy.

How did this new policy help the U.S?

Opened every port in China for trade, and allowed for an assurance between Japan and America, building trust.

Downfall of the Open Door Policy

Country's began to ignore the policy and the Japanese seizure of Manchuria made people forget even more. Many closed door, secret treaties between other countries which made policy loose its trust.

America's continued efforts

Wanted to preserve the open door policy, so they created an International Banking consortium.
