The advisers of the Pharaoh were the true minds behind the Ancient Egyptian government. They gave the pharaoh all of the advice needed to run a government. The pharaoh was really just a figurehead that was born into his position!

Royal Advisers

Priests/Religious Leaders

The priests were one of the most important parts of the theocracy of Ancient Egypt. Their whole society was based around religion, meaning that the priests had the uppermost respect given to them by other classes, even the royal advisers!

The most populous class in Ancient Egypt, the commoners, were given no respect by any of the upper classes. Mostly farmers, these people were often very poor, and had to pay many taxes to the government.

Commoners/Peasants

Social Mobility

In Ancient Egyptian society, whatever social class that you are born in, you stay there for the rest of your life. For example: if you are a farmer, you can't become a priest. If you are a pharaoh, you can't become a farmer!

Ancient Egyptian Government

The Pharaoh

The pharaoh was the head of the government. It was believed that when a man was crowned pharaoh, the Ka (soul) of Horus, the main deity of Egyptian religion, would enter the body of the pharaoh. This would make him a god on earth.
