Who is Shakira?

Introduction

Her Upbringing and Background

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She supports both her Latino and Arabic heritage in her music. Shakira is known for her vocal skills even though she is able to play the guitar, the harmonica, and the drums. She is a native Spanish speaker.

When she was eight, Shakira wrote her first song, which was called "Your dark glasses". Her inspiration for this song was her father because he was in grief by her older half-brother's murder. Shakira signed her first record deal at 13 years old.

Before Shakira started writing music, she wrote poetry and completed her first poem called "La Rosa de Cristal", when she was four years old.

Shakira tends to keep her personal life quiet but there are details that are leaked to and showed in the news. She ended her relationship with Antonio de la Ru`a after they dated for 11 years. Most recently she has been connected with Gerard Pique.

The Pies Descalzos Foundation was founded by Shakira at the age of 18, in Barranquilla, Colombia. The organization helps to improve education, nutrition and health for children.

Early Life Career

albums did not make it until

she released Pies Descalzos,

meaning "bare feet", which sold more than 3 million copies. She won her first Grammy Award as best Latin pop album in 2000.

International

Shakira released her first English-language album, Laundry Service which brought her the success in the U.S she had been waiting for. The album reached number 3 on the charts of 2001.

She recieved diez Grammy awards, dos U.S. awards, ocho Latin, and doce billboard Latin music awards

The ALAS Foundation by Shakira is to help Latin American children younger than 5 years old--9 million that suffer from chronic malnutrition and 22 million dont have access to education.

By 2012, Shakira's U.S. album sale had reached nearly 10 million and 70 million worldwide!

She soon began to sing with top stars.
